NEW YEAR NEW GOALS

I don’t know about you, but I always get excited for the start of a new month. It feels like a fresh start and makes me think about what I want to accomplish in those following thirty days. That said, there is something even more special about the start of a new year! People tend to feel more excited, think bigger, and set grander goals. This is great except for the fact that as time goes on, the initial excitement begins to fade, making it harder to stay committed to those goals.

This does not mean that you shouldn’t set big goals at the start of the new year! It simply means that you need to go about setting your goals the correct way. If you follow a few simple tips, you will be much more likely to stick to and achieve your goals.

1.     Don’t set too many goals at once – Setting an unmanageable number of goals can feel overwhelming. Think quality over quantity so that you can give your full attention to a realistic number of goals. Giving your energy to just a few things will allow you to do those things very well. Be sure to order your goals chronologically and this will help you decide which goals to focus on first.

2.     Make sure you have a plan – Any goal that does not have an action plan attached to it is simply a dream. Take your goal and break it down into smaller tasks. Having steps mapped out will increase efficiency and help you maintain motivation.

3.     Create measurable check points – Instead of writing a generalized goal such as “I want to get better at ____” try saying “I want to be able to complete 8 reps of ____”. Being more specific will allow you to clearly see the progress you are making, which will also help you maintain motivation. You will know exactly when you can cross your goal off of the list instead of feeling unsure due to a vaguely written goal.

All this to say, have fun and dream big as you set your goals for this new year! If you need more information on how to reach all of your goals, feel free to reach out and I am happy to help. Let’s make 2022 a wonderful year!
